Academies

World Class Schools of Leon County supports the development of Academies in our high schools. As the partnership between the schools, businesses, workforce training and the Economic Development Council grows, the options will increase for our students in planning their high school courses.

GODBY High School

As of the 2007-2008 school year, Leon County Schools offers an information technology magnet program at Godby High School. All eighth-grade students who meet the criteria in Leon County are eligible to enroll in the program. Godby's IT Magnet Program offers a curriculum that links core honors-weighted academic subjects to information technology and computer science. In addition, the program prepares students to test for valuable industry certifications while still in high school. All programs promote a four-pronged approach to education that includes curriculum integration, service learning, educationally enriching externships and involvement in student organizations. Academy of Finance – Godby currently partners with Envision Credit Union in offering an innovative approach to the teaching of financial principles to students who will possibly pursue a career in banking or finance. This program provides a full service financial center operated and serving students of Godby High School. It teaches students responsibility and discipline not only in their finances but in all areas of life. For more information, please click here.

RICKARDS High School

The Academy of Health Sciences is a Leon County Schools CHOICE program implemented to provide students with the skills and experiences necessary for employment and post-secondary education in the health profession. Dual enrollment opportunities at Lively, TCC, FSU and FAMU are provided to Academy students. In order to provide optimal learning opportunities, training scenarios are conducted utilizing the advanced technology found in both the Academy Computer Lab and the Academy Health Lab. Academy students become members of HOSA and are members of the Big Bend AHEC/TMH Healthcare Ambassador Program. Additionally, students meeting the criteria are eligible for the Bright Futures Gold Seal Scholarship, as well as a TMH clinical scholarship set aside specifically for an Academy of Health Sciences a graduate.
